New perspectives, fresh mountain air, and plenty of team spirit: For one week, we swapped our usual desks for the stunning backdrop of the Austrian Alps. The goal? A workation that takes productivity and team building to the next level.
When people think of “New Work,” they often just think of working from home or flexible hours. For us, it means more: it’s about creating space for creativity and growing closer as a team. That’s exactly why we headed to Austria for a week to blend work and vacation.
Productivity at 1,500 Meters
Laptops open, mountain views on: The change of scenery sparked a unique dynamic right from the start. Away from the classic office routine and free from typical distractions, we used the mornings intensively for deep focus work, strategic workshops, and creative brainstorming.
It quickly became clear: when the view outside the window isn’t a busy street but snow-capped peaks and green meadows, thoughts flow much more freely. Complex challenges were tackled over coffee on the terrace, and new project ideas seemed to appear naturally.
From Hiking Trails to Culinary Highlights
Once the work was done, it was time to close the laptops and lace up our hiking boots! The Austrian mountains provided the perfect setting to completely clear our heads.
Our highlights away from the screen:
- Reaching new heights together: During our hikes, we didn’t just conquer elevation; we proved that as a team, we can handle any steep incline. Standing together at the summit cross and enjoying the view is an incredible bonding experience.
- Culinary rewards: What would a trip to Austria be without its excellent food? From a hearty Brettljause (traditional snack platter) at an alpine hut to the mandatory giant plate of Kaiserschmarrn – we treated ourselves well. Shared dinners were the perfect opportunity to reflect on the day and share a lot of laughs.
- True team spirit: The most valuable part of this week was the conversations away from deadlines, to-do lists, and Microsoft Teams. We came together on a completely different level, which has sustainably strengthened trust and cohesion within the team.
We returned with fully charged batteries, minds buzzing with new ideas, and an even stronger sense of community. This workation showed us once again that success doesn’t depend on where you sit together, but how you function as a team.
The change of scenery was a resounding success—and honestly, the planning for the next offsite is already underway.
